CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Taking his first college snap after starting quarterback, Tristan Gabia shut it down, Chance Nolan scored on a 1-yard, fourth-down run with 33 seconds left Oregon State 41-38 Upset won. .9 Friday Night Oregon.
Jarmer Jefferson ran for 226 yards and two touchdowns to help the Beavers (2-2) win their second straight game. Jefferson has rushed for at least 100 yards in each of Oregon State’s four matches and is on pace to hit 1,000 despite the short season.
Oregon (3-1) won seven in a row and three straight over rival Beavers. The loss shattered any slim hopes, while the Ducks earned a spot in the College Football Playoff. The Ducks were ranked 15th in the first CFP rankings released on Tuesday.
Tristan Gabia threw for 263 years and a score and drove a touchdown during a foggy game at Racer Stadium. While no fans were allowed in the game, cars passing near the stadium were later awarded to the home team.
Tyler Shuff threw for 266 yards and two touchdowns to Oregon.
This was the 124th edition of the 1894 dates rivalry. This summer led to a nationwide protest against racial injustice, with both schools deciding to drop the nickname “Civil War”.
Gabia started the 1-yard keeper in the fourth quarter to pull Oberian State up to 31-26.
Oregon State made an interception on the ensuing drive and got the ball on Oregon’s 33. Gabbia got Colby Taylor with a 31-yard pass before Jefferson scored on a 2-yard run. Gabia’s defenders on a two-point conversion gave Oregon State a 34-31 lead.
The Oregon State penalty helped the Duck on their drive, capped by Cyrus Habibi-Likio’s 1-yard dash into the final zone, leaving Oregon with 8:27 left.
After the teams had assets ending on the ups and downs, the Beavers got another chance. Gabia gave Taylor two passes on the drive putting Beaver on Oregon 6.
Gibia scored but the officials put the ball on 1 on the third. Gibia ran again, and confined it to the shore, while the play was under review. Oregon was upside down, but no penalty was called. This set Nolan’s touchdown to fourth in the only game of his college career.
Jaylon Redd scored a 37-yard run in the game’s first campaign in Oregon, but Jefferson responded with an 82-yard touchdown run, a career-long beaver.
Shuff scored on a 1-yard keeper to put Oregon in front again. After an Oregon State field goal, Devon Williams caught Shaw’s 60-yard touchdown pass on second and a score of 21.
Trailing 21-13 after another field goal, Oregon State tried to convert on fourth-and-3, and gave Dive’s ball to the Beavers 44. The drive ended with Henry Kettleman’s 33-yard field goal.
Gabia’s 8-yard touchdown pass by Zeria Benson closed the Beavers 24-18, but a two-point conversion failed. Oregon again pulled Hunter Kampoyer on Shaw’s 4-yard scoring pass before Gabbia’s 1-yard keeper narrowed the gap to 31-26 in the final quarter.
UCLA and former coach Chip Kelly edged out 38-35 last Saturday. The Beavers were coming off their first win, winning 31–27 over California last weekend. Jefferson rushed for 196 yards and a touchdown.
Oregon: Freshman linebacker Noah Sewell, who took the field last weekend with a scary injury, played for the Duck. … The Ducks won the Pac-12 championship game last year and the Rose Bowl 24-10. … Oregon holds a 66-48-10 advantage in the series.
Oregon State: After winning Pac-12 Freshman of the Year honors in 2018, Jefferson, who struggled with injuries last season, rushed for 75 or more yards on his first carry in the last two games. … Jefferson had a rush for yards in the series of rivals.
Oregon Cal plays next weekend. The Golden Bears fell to Stanford 24–23 in the Big Game on the first Friday.
Oregon State is in Utah next weekend. The Utes were scheduled to play Arizona State on Sunday, but that game was canceled, so they were heading to Seattle to play Washington. The Huskies were originally scheduled to play in the Apple Cup on Friday, but that game was also canceled.
