ADDIS ABABA (Reuters) – Ethiopia said on Tuesday that Tigre rebels were fighters from the northern region who had not been defeated, after the government announced a military strike there.
“Some remains of the militia or special forces have not yet been controlled,” Redvan Hussain, a spokesman for the government’s task force for the Tigray crisis, told reporters.
It was not immediately possible to reach TPLF for comment.
Most communications in Tigray are down and access to the area is severely restricted, making it difficult to verify statements from both sides.
