Tokyo (Reuters) – Two The governors of Tokyo and three other Japanese provinces on Saturday urged the government to declare a state of emergency following the resurgence of COVID-19 cases.
Economy Minister Yasutoshi Nishimura told reporters in a briefing after meeting with the governors that the government would have to hear from experts before deciding whether to make an emergency declaration.
The new COVID-19 infection in Tokyo set a record of 1,337 on 31 December, and 783 on Friday. A nationwide record was also set on 31 December with 4,520 new cases.
