SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Stephen Curry gave up for a minute with another perfect flourish on the way to a career-high 62 points, and the Golden State Warriors defeated Portland on Sunday night by 137- Defeat 122 to split the two-game set with the Trail Blazers.
Curry had the highest score in the NBA this season, finishing 16 of 31 on 3-pointers and 18 for 8 after starting with a 21-point first quarter. He assisted in the 30-point half of his 10th career to take the Warriors 66-54 into the break.
One small flaw in his illustrious night: Curry drew his streak of free throws thrown for the first time in the French-record 80s. Date 29 March 2019, vs. Memphis. Against Portland, he set a career high of 18 on 19 attempts.
Damian Lillard scored 32 points for Portland, and CJ McCollum added 28. McCullum scored 2 from deep for 8 after his 25 3-pointers in the opening 5 matches. Leaving him and Curry as the only players to do so.
After Portland’s 25-point win on Friday night, the Warriors were embarrassed and determined to be more aggressive and better have the Blazers come out after firing to finish 20 to 43 deep – and they were more on the defensive end Look energetic. Portland shot 14 of 43 on 3 Sundays.
Curry did all this at the other end. When he sat down for good in the wandering seconds and was hugged by teammates, the noise of the crowd seemed to be extra loud in an area devoid of actual fans.
Drummond Green had eight assists and was playing his second game of the season, scoring one point and his minutes were down 28 from 18. The Green are still finding their air. His comeback marked his first game against the Lakers on Friday, 27 February and a 309-day stretch. He was sidelined in the first four matches with a right leg injury due to a delay in starting training camp because he had a coronavirus.
Warriors No. 2 overall draft pick James Wiseman had 12 points, a career-best 11 rebounds and two blocks. He took a major foul from McCollum in the third.
Lillard and Green received a double-technical at the 5:06 mark of the first quarter.
Lillard, who became just the second Portland player to join Hall of Famer Clyde Drexler on Friday night to reach the 15,000 mark, is at his best against the Warriors.
Lillard has scored at least 29 points in seven straight games against the Warriors and has made at least five 3-pointers in six of those games.
Trail Blazers: F Rodney Hood did not play Friday night after punching his left quadriceps and played only five minutes. … McCallum had five assists, nine rebellions and two steals.
Warriors: Curry’s previous career was 54 points on 27 February 2013 at Madison Square Garden in New York. … Curry scored 20 or more in a quarter for the 27th time in his career. … Golden-State scored 13 for 34 in deep after making only 7 of 35 from 3-point range on Friday. … Andrew Wiggins has scored in double figures in every game so far.
