Salt Lock City (AP) – Donovan Mitchell scored a season-high 36 points, and the Utah Jazz defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 129–118 on Thursday night to secure their seventh straight win.
Mitchell scored 6 for 7 from 3-point range in another efficient performance. Utah played 50% of the shots (44 for 88) during a 118–102 win over New Orleans on Tuesday night.
Mike Conley scored 20 points and Jordan Clarkson 19 for Utah, the longest active win streak in the NBA.
Zion Williamson scored 27 points and Brandon Ingram scored 23 points, but the Pelicans could not maintain the momentum of the first innings nearly a quarter right.
Nevertheless, New Orleans made little debut in the second half. Eric Blados made a jumper to make the 78–75 Pelicans just before Jazz took office.
Joe Ingalls made a quick break latch on a feed from Mitchell, using a 21–2 run to give Utah a 96–80 lead with 4:27 to play in the third quarter.
Boiled disappointment for the Pelicans. Coach Stan Van Gundy got a technical and then lost the challenge of eliminating a foul. Minutes later, Steven Adams leaped off the bench to make a debate and earned a technical, and Van Gundy continued to argue and was ejected with 2:23 remaining in the period.
Williamson’s junker got the Pelicans to within 100-94 in the fourth quarter, but the Jazz used their precise passing and shooting to rebuild to a comfortable margin.
Ingram made all six of his shots, including four 3s, as the Pelicans scored 43 points in the first quarter. It was the second-largest total for the first quarter in franchise history.
The Pelicans held a 70-69 lead at halftime, leading 16 before the Jazz. Both Mitchell (21 points) and Ingram (20 points) placed season high for the first half.
