Morgan Hill, California. (AP) – A San Francisco Bay Area deputy said he was ambushed by a gunman last year and his body camera fired at him, suspected of filing hooliganism and barbaric police reports on Friday Was arrested
Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Deputy Sukhdeep Gill lied when he told officers he was on patrol in Morgan Hill the night of March 31, 2020, when a car pulled him over and someone opened fire, smashing his body camera . A Sheriff Department spokesman, Michael Low, said in a statement.
“After conducting a comprehensive investigation and looking at all the evidence according to county protocol, sheriff’s detectives believed the evidence suggested that the shooting was not reported and fabricated,” Less said.
Prosecutors laid the charges on Friday and Gill was arrested and put in jail, Low said.
Lo did not explain how Gill motivated the attack or how he staged it. Gill was treated in a hospital.
Gill’s attorney Nicole Pifari said in a statement that she and her client “look forward to getting our hands on the investigation and understanding the evidence as to why these charges are being pursued,” Mercury News in San Jose reported.
Gill, who has been with the Sheriff Department since 2015, is a Sikh wearing a traditional Sikh turban. The sheriff’s office said that after the assault was reported, investigators were looking into whether the shot was a hate crime or a crime of opportunity against law enforcement.
“If the allegations are true, then Deputy Gill’s actions are not representative of the men and women who rise above the Sheriff’s Office, risking their lives every day to serve our community with integrity and integrity.”
