(Reuters) – U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said Sunday that American workers earning $ 60,000 per year should receive incentive checks as part of the White House’s proposed $ 1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package.
Yellen said on CNN’s “State of the Union”, “The exact details of how it should be targeted should be determined, but struggling middle-class families need help.”
Yellen said the administration is considering the risk that stimulus plans could cause inflation, but added: “We have good tools to deal with the risk if it materializes.”
Yellen and other administration officials have repeatedly warned that the threat to the economy will be much smaller than stimulus efforts, not too large.
